DubSpot: Creating a dubstep bass sound / wobble in Ableton Live 8

Here Is the Vid I was talking about in the previous post.

Reverse Polarity

Here's another demo of a track thats going to be on the upcoming nights full length. I made the bass part by following instructions posted on A-trak's blog on how to make a wobbly bass sound in the simpler instrument of Ableton Live.

You'll find love.

Here's the demo i recorded sometime ago. The drums and keys are from that wood paneled Casio that Matt used to play in Sleepless Nights. I got that from Tim Deon when we used to live at dirt mansion. It still has the Value Village sticker on it.

live nights one world cafe

2 recordings from November 5th 2006. Show was at the one world cafe in Halifax. I miss that place. I saw so many awesome shows there. It's some sort of glamour shot studio or somthing now. Acoustic-ish show. I think Richard fell asleep at this one.

Way to Ruin Everything

Two more demos and the track we recorded for our split 7" with thomas/richard a few years ago. Andrew Sisk plays drums on Way to Ruin Everything.

bryan adams on the phone

Somehow a few years ago I got talked into going to a Bryan Adams concert. Then I decided that Bryan Adams was awesome and deserved a tribute album. I got as far as convincing three other people I was right. Here are the results.

Heaven - A.A. Wallace

Everything I do i do it for you - Turkules (that guy from contrived)

Run to you - Catholic Gaydar (featuring Matt Pacman from Sharpe Like Knives and Windom Earle)

Cuts Like a Knife - Thomas/Richard (who will be playing with a bunch of sleepless nights at the popex this year)

nights at the yarmouth ns exhibition

We played in Yarmouth last week after judging a battle of the bands to see which high school band would get a slot at Nova Scotia Music Week this year. They get picked up in a limo and driven to the show from their school as i understand it. Pretty dope. I would have loved that shit in High School.

Here's some Vids.

old demos

Here are three older demo's for you that didn't make it onto the a place who loves comp. Not because i didn't like them but because i couldn't find them.

success summer 09 mix

sleepless nights are on tour. When sleepless nights are on tour there is a lot of time spent on the computer. a lot of time spent on the computer without any real inspiration, just the thought that computing is a less painful way of wasting time than actually doing stuff. In this time I made a new DJ mix for you. I hope you like it. it's way cooler than the last one.

here's the track list -

Holy ghost! - I will come back
Chemical Brothers - Chemical Beats
Peaches - Lose You (yuksek mix)
Armand Van helden feat. Dizzee Rascal - Bonkers
Tiga - Shoes(beni remix)
Musique - Keep on jumpin
Hot Chip - hold on (D.I.M. remix)
Muscles - Sweaty (shazam remix)
Daft Punk - Burnin
Micheal jackson - Smooth Criminal (lazertag edit)
Tiga - mind dimention to (soulwax version)
FUKKK OFF - love me hate me kiss me kill me
WZRDZ - kick it
Miike Snow - Animal (treasure Fingers mix)
Lifelike - Soul Of My Love

data compilation

So there's The Nights and Rah Rah doing Breathe Deep Tornado at the capitol in Fredericton. I don't think i was actually even on stage at this point. Also above this post and below the pic we have the tour poster featuring the ever lovely Trevor Gertrude Murphy of blasse playing fame.

I made a typo in the previous post. The tour release is actually called "a place who loves" not that loves. 14 tracks.

the world forgetting
we're all doomed
politics
green lights
alone and annoyed
jeff's guide
backtalk
coup d'etat
way to ruin everything fast
sleepless nights
guitar hero
way to ruin everything
north dakota
disappear into the flatlands

none of these tracks will be remastered so there is going to be a wide range of volume dynamics. I recommend listening to it close to your volume control

the way bricks don't

sorry for the lack of posts recently. the nights have been busy. we did a batch of atlantic province shows with Rah Rah over the last couple weeks. I'll gather the photo's i've seen scattered across various facebooks and msg boards and post them here in the next couple days.

We're gearing up to do a Canadian tour with Rah Rah starting next week and since we don't have a new record out yet we're going to do a tour release. It's going to be called "a place who loves" which some north-enders may recognize. On the disc there will be covers, demos, and failed attempts at album songs. I've been going through all the songs i have on hard drives and computers and it's going to be pretty eclectic. three peice drudgery from 2003 to space robot jams from the future. you're probably going to hate it.

3/26/09

nights album

working on it. it's pretty psychedelic at this point. lots of stereo effects. you're going to get seasick.

Also, I just finished the music for a SERIOUSLY remix of morning eyes by OWL which is matt from the superfan's new boy girl 2 people band. it's right new wave disco. If i get permissions when it's done i'll throw it up here.

dear mr Branson

I had a dream the other night that i just recalled. I was really stressed out about life and decided i should go into television. Then Richard Branson came over and told me i should program a channel he was starting. I told him I wanted to show 80's movies like they used to show on comedy central and science fiction. He said that was a great idea. Are you up there Mr. Branson it's me Aaron. Facebook me, we'll hang out after work this week.
